Recycling Plants – Create Awareness and Improve Efficiency

Postby Vinay » Tue May 24, 2011 9:13 am

Project Description

In today’s world the importance of recycling is becoming greater of a concern both for the general public and
also to the economy. Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and achieves a sustainable
development. Recycling has become a major issue as scientific research has been suggesting for years that
the earth’s resources are being depleted too fast to sustain a healthy balance between the resources and
their depletion.

The earth’s natural resources are being consumed at a rate that reinforces the idea that we are living for
today and the future generations will be paying for the consequences. Rakshak Foundation wishes to
emphasize the important role that efficiently operated recycling plants can play to ensure sustainable
development. Many people and just as importantly businesses are realizing the problem at hand and the
importance of recycling. Recycling along with reducing consumption is our best means to counter the
damage we have been doing to the earth’s ecosystem for centuries. The quality of life for our children and for
the future generations very much depends on our actions today. Recycling is a key component to a holistic
approach to preserving a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.

Try to read some research papers to see what is the procedure followed internationally for the recycling of toxic material, electronic waste, water, metal parts etc. How this relates to India?

a) What percentage of waste is recycled?
b) Which ministry it comes under, what are ministry guidelines? What is the way to evaluate the efficieny?
c) what is the national policy on recycling.
d) Modelling of the history, present and future of recycling, in terms of items being recycled, how many tonnes etc.
e) Who are the major government and private players in this area?

....

... More suggestions are welcome...
